A man was critically injured this afternoon after being stabbed in Qormi, police officials confirmed with MaltaToday.
The victim has been identified as a 39-year-old man residing in Qormi, police confirmed.
The incident occurred at around 4pm in Triq San Bastjan, Qormi, at the Labour Party club. Sources who spoke to MaltaToday said the man was stabbed in his stomach and suffered injuries to his abdomen.
Police sources initially classified the victim's injuries as serious, but he was later certified to be suffering from life-threatening injuries.
The aggressor initially fled the scene of the crime before he was arrested and detained by police.
A magisterial inquiry led by Duty Magistrate Antonio Micallef Trigona has been launched, MaltaToday is informed.
The stabbing is said to have been sparked following an argument between the victim and the aggressor.
Photos of the scene of the crime showed a considerable amount of blood on the ground, together with shards of broken glass.
A number of police cars and an ambulance were on site shortly after the stabbing occurred. The man was taken to Mater Dei Hospital by an ambulance and was given initial medical assistance by a team of a paramedics.
Police officers on site interrogated several eyewitnesses.
The extent of the man’s injuries are not yet known, though sources who spoke with MaltaToday said the man is said to have suffered serious injuries.
The man is currently receiving treatment at Mater Dei Hospital.
