Sylvester Farrugia, 25, shot dead in Triq Simpson, Marsa at around 5am
A young man was shot to death in Marsa in the early hours of the morning, the second murder in Malta in 2017.
The man has been named as Sylvester Farrugia, a 25-year-old hospital worker from Zurrieq. Police said that he was gunned down at around 5am in Triq Simpson, Marsa. Footage of the crime scene shows the man lying in a pool of blood outside a car with two smashed windows, indicating that Farrugia had been inside or right outside the vehicle when he was shot at.
Police sources told state broadcaster PBS that Farrugia had a criminal record and that the car he had been driving was a stolen one with stolen number plates attached to it. MaltaToday is also reliably informed that Farrugia had dealt in cocaine.
Duty magistrate Anthony Vella appointed several experts to assist him in the inquiry that has been launched into the muder.
This is the second murder of the year in Malta, after 66-year-old Victor Calleja was killed when a car bomb exploded in Marsa on 29 January.
