Grace Borg slams GRTU over 'orchestrated' divorce stand, branding it a 'political party'
Outspoken businesswoman Grace Borg has pulled her business out of GRTU stressing that the traders’ union has become a “political party.”
Borg, who formed part of the GRTU’s Executive Committee in 2009, resifgned as a member and pulled her business out of the union, in the wake of remarks made by GRTU President Paul Abela during a meeting he had with the anti-divorce lobby.
Abela said that although the GRTU does not have a stand on divorce, he will personally vote against the introduction of divorce.
“This is absolutely unacceptable,” Grace Borg told MaltaToday, adding that she cannot understand how, rather than focusing on urgent and important issues to protect businesses, the GRTU bosses waste their time on meeting the anti-divorce lobby.
“I feel that the GRTU today has become a political party and not the defender of business concerns,” she stressed.
“Who cares what Paul Abela is going to vote?” Grace Borg argued, adding that “it is more than evident that the whole meeting and statement was politically motivated and orchestrated in a way to invite people to vote against the introduction of divorce.”
Meanwhile, Grace Borg said that she has received a text message – presumably from GRTU director General Vince Farrugia – inviting her to “meet and discuss” her pull-out from the GRTU next Monday.
