AD appeals for a ‘yes’ vote for a second chance at happiness
Alternattiva Demokratika appeals to voters to resist the fear campaign and vote yes on Saturday.
“There were some who misquoted studies. There were also some who invented one scenario after another to scare people,” green party Alternattiva Demokratika said in a statement on Thursday.
“Some arguments propounded by the anti-divorce camp, supported by the Nationalist Party, show how there are those who wish to control people’s personal lives. There are also parliamentary members who expect, despite all circumstances, everyone to abide by what they dictate,” AD said.
AD remarked that it was also “regrettable that, while an avalanche of criticism is being levelled at Alternattiva Demokratika and other organisations working to give people a second chance in life, the Labour Party did not have the courage to adopt a position.”
“In a perfect world, every relationship and marriage would function smoothly. In a perfect world, there wouldn’t be victims and aggressors. The reality, however, is that we don’t live in such a perfect world,” AD said.
It added that it was proud to have always spoken out about the suffering of individuals, and the need for a choice for divorce for those people who need it.
“Divorce recognises the fact that a marriage has ended. There are people who need an opportunity to regulate their lives in the eyes of the state and the law,” AD said. “Everyone deserves the right to happiness, and everyone deserves a second chance.”
AD said that adults have the right to lead their lives in their best interest and in that of those around them. “Surely, no person can continue living in an abusive, violent, or miserable relationship that benefits nobody, be they adults, or children.”
Surely the possibility to rebuild one’s life anew is the only path that makes sense, AD said.
In this light, AD urged the public to vote yes by marking an ‘X’ in the yellow box, as indicated in a specimen ballot sheet provided alongside its statement.
It urged the public to, should it wish to communicate any observations of what is taking place, can send messages, pictures, or filming by email on [email protected], contact the party through Facebook, or call on 9989 4962.
