Zwieg bla Divorzju insists Moviment Iva wants divorce 'without reason'

Anti-divorce lobby Zwieg Bla Divorzju is insisting that the pro-divorce camp Moviment Iva has "confirmed" that the draft divorce bill leads to “unjustified” and “imposed” divorce.

The anti-divorce lobby has claimed that the divorce draft bill will allow spouses to file for divorce in court "without giving any reason and obtain a divorce, even if the other spouse and her children might not want this.

Zwieg bla Divorzju has refuted claims that it is deliberately mistranslating the notion of a 'no fault divorce' as a "divorce without reason".

On Monday, MaltaToday asked Zwieg bla Divorju spokesperson Arthur Galea Salomone to justify the anti-divorce movement’s emphasis on the notion of a ‘no reason divorce’ and how this is any different from current separation laws which equally require no justification.

He was evasive in his answers. "If you want us to start talking about the differences between separation and divorce, we can..." and went to illustrate further his movement's arguments against divorce.

Zwieg Bla Divorzju today reiterated its claim that 'divorce without reason' was a “grave injustice” which the pro-divorce movement is trying to impose on the Maltese and Gozitan people.

It said that the pro-divorce lobby is also trying to mislead the public by saying that maintenance would be guaranteed.
