Parties to hold telethons over Carnival weekend
Two main political parties to hold fun-raising telethons over Carnival weekend.
Not only did this year's Carnival force the St Paul's Shipwreck feast in Valletta to be moved forward from the traditional 10 February date, but the annual feast of masks, pranks and satire has also forced the political parties' hands in cancelling next Sunday's mass meetings.
However, not to be outdone by Carnival and in their attempt to keep their campaigns afloat, the two parties will be holding telethons to collect donations from their hordes of loyal supporters.
On Saturday, 9 February, the Nationalist Party will hold its telethon on Net TV while on the following day, Labour will hold its own fund-raising event on the party's television station, One.
The telethons will be held bang in the middle of the nine-week electoral campaign, just weeks after the two parties collectively amassed over €1 million in similar telethons.
