Crew change through Malta was ‘crucial’ for seizing Cartagena
A crew change just three days before the storming of Gaddafi-owned oil tanker ‘Cartagena’ last week, was crucial for rebels to be able to take over the ship and steer its precious cargo to Benghazi.
Sources close to the operation explained that a crew member aboard the ship and another who had arrived in Malta and transferred to the ship that was anchored on Hurd’s Bank 22 miles south of the island, just three days before the storming were crucial for the rebels to gain access to the ship in the dead of night.
While MaltaToday is informed that two previous attempts to seize the ship had failed, rebels this time had the inside help of crew members of the Gaddafi owned ship to lower rope ladders from starboard to allow at least 20 rebels to climb aboard and take full control of the vessel.
