Fgura local council calls for compensation by Enemalta

Fgura mayor Byron Camilleri called on Enemalta to provide the locality with reparative compensation through environmental projects.

In a letter sent yesterday to the Chairman of Enemalta, Fgura mayor Byron Camilleri demanded compensation from Enemalta in  wake of a University reportcommissiond by MEPA – that said that the main source of the black dust in Fgura was the Marsa power station.

Enemalta has dismissed the report insisting that it did not carry an analysis of the composition of the samples, and comparison with the flyash produced by the power station.

Camilleri said that Enemalta should “compensate the locality through environmental projects to make good for the damages suffered by the Fgura community.”

Camilleri said that it was not only the resident’s health and environment which where affected, but also the property industry in Fgura which suffered “decline in property value”.
