Video | Commuters march in Valletta

Some 200 protesters chanted “step down” as they march through Republic Street and called for transport minister Austin Gatt to resign over the failed public transport reform.

The protest was organized by various students and workers who expressed frustration at how the new public transport service is operating.

The march through Valletta also included a number of residents from various localities in the south of Malta.

Moviment Graffiti expressed solidarity with Arriva bus drivers who are facing a difficult situation coping with the confusion that has been created and appealed to the general public not to vent its frustration on the drivers.

A small number of Arriva bus drivers participated in the march and anonymously told journalists about worsening working conditions, with €38 pay for a 12 hour shift.
