Karmenu Vella describes government’s tax revision promise as ‘electoral ploy’
In an interview appearing tomorrow on MaltaToday, shadow finance minister Karmenu Vella voices scepticism over government’s promise to reduce the tax band.
Recalling the Nationalist Party’s promise to reduce income tax on the eve of the 2008 general elections, Labour MP Karmenu Vella said it was simply an electoral gimmick.
Speaking to MaltaToday’s Raphael Vassallo, Vella rejected the notion that the promise was made before any financial crisis:
“When he made that promise, Gonzi had already publicly admitted that we were going through international economic crisis. He said this on record, talking about a crisis in the price of oil, cereals and wheat …”

This was the slyest ploy that shifted the balance in favour of GonziPN when one considers that the last election was won by a handful of votes, so much so that the PN does not enjoy the absolute majority.
As the say you can fool the people many times BUT not all the time.
