Melita has retained broadcasting rights for UEFA Europa League through to 2015.

Changes announced in broadcasting rights for UEFA Champions League apply from the 2012 season onwards and do not affect the season currently underway.

As from the 2012 season onwards, customers will be able to watch the best UEFA Champions League matches for free on TVM and other free to air channels every match week.

When bidding for broadcasting rights, Melita considered a recent European Court of Justice (ECJ) ruling on the English Premier League which attacks the very notion of territorial exclusivity within the European Union.

"This may open the doors to wider competition from alternative broadcasting methods and adversely impact the millions of Euros being committed annually for the acquisition of sports content rights," Melita said.

Melita is monitoring these international developments to ensure that its customers will be well placed to take full advantage of any changes in the coming years via its TV service and Fibre Power broadband network.
