Falzon not to contest for PL on second district
Former Labour Deputy Leader Michael Falzon has announced that he will not contest second electoral district.
In a letter sent to his constituents, Michael Falzon - who today serves as shadow minister for home affairs - said that when he contested the second district in March 2008, he was asked to do so as it was "important for the party leadership" to strengthen the party candidate list.
However, Falzon told his constituents that he will be declining to seek re-election from the second district in the forthcoming general elections.
"Today I no longer hold any senior post within the party," Falzon said, asking his constituents to understand the change, even though he will keep the district "close" to his heart.
Michael Falzon did not mention the district he has chosen as an alternative to the second district, but it is expected that he will retain the tenth electoral district.
Falzon had also run for party leadership after the 2008 electoral defeat, and conceeded to George Abela and Joseph Muscat who garnered more votes from party delegates, who later elected Muscat to lead the party.
