Sunday newspaper Kulhadd reported that Christopher Ciantar, the permanent secretary at the Rural Affairs Ministry, will resign in the coming days.

According to the Labour Party's newspaper, Ciantar will resign because of the "big problems affecting Wastserv and the agriculture and fishing sector".

Kulhadd claimed that Minister George Pullicino would blame Ciantar for these problems.

But in a reaction, the Rural Affairs Ministry denied the newspaper's report: "This story is made up from top to bottom. The ministry denies its Permanent Secretary will resign. The Opposition says one thing, but facts say another."

The government's statement added that "even on Christmas Day, the Opposition makes things up on people."
