Maltese to opt for dinner with relatives and friends on NYE
While Christmas Eve is more quiet, the Maltese prefer to spend New Year’s Eve with family and friends.
The absolute majority of Maltese celebrate New Year's Eve with a homemade dinner with family and friends. However, one in every 10 celebrates by eating out.
This was revealed in a survey carried out by Sunday newspaper Illum.
In its special edition on Christmas Day, the newspaper analysed how Maltese prefer to celebrate the festive season, which activities have become a tradition carried from one generation to the next. While the younger age prefers celebrating NYE at commercial parties, other groups tend to choose between a private party at home or the celebrations held in Valletta and Floriana.
Some 3% will welcome the new year from abroad.
But according to Illum, another 4% have prepared themselves to a lonely start to 2012. 11% have not yet decided what to do.
While champagne is deemed to be the drink to down as the clock strikes midnight, the absolute majority said they drink wine.
Only a third said they drink champagne, Illum said.
While the absolute majority of women (57%) said they made New Year's resolutions, only a third of the men do it.
The most popular resolutions are health-related.
