Russian charged with daughter’s murder granted bail

€30,000 guarantee and 8pm curfew for mother charged with suffocating daughter to death.

Tamara Boubekova, 58, who stands charged with the murder of her daughter in February 2011, has been granted bail by Magistrate Edwina Grima.

Russian citizen Boubekova was granted bail despite objections by the Attorney General prosecutor, fearing she would abscond.

Defence lawyer Joseph Giglio argued that it was more than a year that she has been held in custody.

Bail set at €10,000 as a deposit and a €20,000 personal guarantee, and to sign at a police station every day and be indoors by 8pm.

Boubekova is charged with having killed her daughter Yulia Kalinina, 28, in their Xemxija flat, by suffocating her. Kalinina's body was discovered by neighbours two days after the murder.
