HMS Somerset on way to Malta after passing Suez under heavy security
HMS Somerset, one of the UK’s 13 type 23 frigates that are the mainstay of the country’s surface fleet, has passed through Egypt’s Suez Canal, heading to Malta.

The passing process was marked with tight security measures for the warship, which can carry nearly 10,000 tons.
The warship is expected to arrive at the Grand Harbour before returning to the UK.
HMS Somerset sailed from the UK last August, spending six-month tour of duty conducting maritime security operations that included cracking down on piracy, smuggling, terrorism, human trafficking and the illegal arms trade.
