Mali Consul regrets 'atrocious' death of Mamadou Kamara
The Honorary Consul in Malta for the Republic of Mali regrets the death of Mamadou Kamara, who died while under the custody of the Armed Forces of Malta.
The Honorary Consul in Malta for the Republic of Mali, Ives De Barro, said he regrets the death of Mamadou Kamara, who died while under custody and described the incident as "atrocious."
Kamara was killed in an alleged beating he suffered at the hands of three Detention Services officers, who form part of the Armed Forces, on Saturday 30 June after he was apprehended in Safi having evaded his custodians before being taken to a clinic for mental treatment.
The Honorary Consul said he was thankful to those who had expressed their sympathy towards the Kamara's family and the Malian community in Malta which numbers some 300 Mali nationals.
He added that he was waiting for the results of the inquiry which would be forwarded to the relevant authorities in Mali.
De Barro who learned of the death of Kamara through the media hoped that as many people as possible would show their solidarity by attending Kamara's funeral.
