Plan to undermine established Nationalist MPs on tenth district
A plan to undermine a number of established Nationalist MPs on the tenth electoral district undertaken by circles close to prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi.
A faction close to Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi, within the Nationalist Party is undertaking an exercise to introduce new candidates and replace persons who have caused trouble during the last four years.
A case in point is the candidature of Albert Fenech, a surgeon, who will be contesting the tenth electoral district.
Fenech was one of the ten new candidates approved by the PN Executive committee last week.
The district is contested by a number MPs and ministers, including Robert Arrigo, George Pullicino, Francis Zammit Dimech and Dolores Cristina.
Apart from being earmarked as a charismatic figure who can attract new voters, Fenech is also being backed by the party to eat away at the electoral strength of MP Robert Arrigo who has openly criticised Gonzi's leadership.
