Opposition presents motion to fight IIP legal notice
Opposition spokesperson for Home Affairs files motion to repeal IIP legal notice.
The Opposition's spokesman for home affairs Jason Azzopardi has filed a motion to repeal the legal notice issued today on the Individual Investor Programme.
The publishing of the legal notice brings into effect the citizenship scheme.
Flanked by PN deputy leaders Mario de Marco and Beppe Fenech Adami, Azzopardi presented the motion to the Speaker of the House, Anglu Farrugia.
In a very brief meeting, Azzopardi said it was "with pleasure that I am presenting this motion".
On his part, Farrugia said he will now follow the procedure according to Parliament's regulations and the issue will be up for discussion next Wednesday during the House Business Committee.
Addressing the media, the PN said it was against the sale of citizenship and it was therefore calling on parliament to annul legal notice 450 of 2013.
"It is not in the national interest that citizenship is put up for sale and bought by persons who have no ties to Malta," the PN said.
