President to set up Malta Foodbank Foundation

President Marie Louise Coleiro Preca has announced plans for the setting up of the Malta Foodbank Foundation, a charitable organisation that will  be under her patronage.

The announcement was made as the President visited FairShare, a London-based NGO which supplies 12 million meals to 62,000 vulnerable persons in the UK.

Similarly to FairShare, the Malta Foodbank Foundation will collect and store packaged food that is nearing its sell-by-date instead of discarding it. The food will then be distributed amongst the needy.
