IGM condemns attack on members of the media

The Institute for Maltese Journalists (IGM) has released a statement condemning the threats of violence aimed at members of the press and called on a swift and thorough investigation by the police.

The incidents in question saw journalists and camerapersons threatened with violence and assaulted during an illegal protest in Valletta on Sunday and by relatives of hunters facing court charges yesterday.

"We urge authorities to protect members of the media during the course of their work, particularly in light of the threats they received yesterday," the statement read. "We encourage members of the media to report such incidents and that any such reports are investigated immediately."

"IGM strongly ondemns the lack of civility and respect towards democractic institutions in this country."
