€1.2 million in EU funds will be set aside to install photovoltaic panels for 32 religious societies, Parliamentary Secretary for EU Funds Ian Borg announced.

Borg was addressing a press conference where he inaugurated an installation project of photovoltaic panels on four sites that belong to the Secular Order of Teresian Carmelites. €400,000 in EU funds for Regional Development were invested in this project.

The four sites were St John’s Church in Ta’Xbiex, St Teresa’s Sanctuary in Birkirkara, St Teresa’s Church in Bormla, and the Convent of Carmelite nuns in Bormla.

The order’s provincial said that this project will enhance the generation of electricity from alternative energy sources. He said that this would help reduce harmful air emissions and increase public awareness on the importance of a clean environment.
