If you’re planning to go to Valletta or Floriana next week, be sure to plan ahead as the closure of approximately 20 roads is expected to turn the capital into a traffic gridlock.
In a statement, the Commissioner of Police said that a number of roads in Valletta and Floriana will be closed off for the Valletta Summit due to be held on November 11 and 12. The Police said that other roads that were previously earmarked by the Government Gazette for closure, will in fact, be open to traffic during the Valletta Summit.
However, these roads will nonetheless be classified as tow zones in the case of any obstruction.
The Commissioner of Police said that on November 11, from 2pm to 10pm, the following roads will be closed to the public:
Glormu Cassar Road to the War Monument, Pope Pius Street up to the new Parliament, the Steps, South Street corner with Zachary Street, Ordnance Street and Victory Street, Ordnance Street corner with Victory Street, Merchants Street corner with Melita Street, St Paul Street corner with Melita Street and St Ursula Street corner with Battery Street. The Upper Barrakka gardens will be closed for the entire day.
Similarly, the following roads will be closed between November 11 and 12 from 2pm until the end of the conference:
Lascaris Wharf corner with Crucifix Hill, Quarry Wharf corner with Liesse Hill, Mediterranean Street corner with St Nicholas Street, East Street corner with St Christopher Street, East Street corner with St Dominic Street, St Elmo Street corner with Merchants Street, North Street corner with Merchants Street, Old Hospital Street corner with Merchants Street, St Paul Street corner with St Nicholas Street, St Nicholas Street corner with St Ursula Street, St Nicholas Street cornet with Old Wells Street, Spur Street corner with St Sebastian Street, Old Bakery Street corner with St Sebastian Street, West Street corner with St Sebastian Street.
