[WATCH] Minute of silence for Paris victims observed at Castille Square

Malta observes a minute of silence at Castille square in remembrance of  the 129 people killed during Friday's terror attacks in Paris.

Malta joined other European countries in observing a minute’s silence in honour of the 129 people killed during a series of attacks in Paris on Friday.

Around 150 people, many of whom were tourists, gathered at Castille Square, as the Barrakka noon-day fired.

Those present included Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, Opposition leader Simon Busuttil, Acting President Dolores Cristina, Speaker Anglu Farrugia, and a number of ministers and shadow ministers.

Members of the public also participated in the minute of silence, and a number of them being visibly moved.

The minute of silence was followed by a rendition of the French national anthem ‘La Marseillaise’, followed by the Maltese anthem.

French ambassador to Malta Béatrice le Fraper du Hellen also provided words of encouragement in French to the people gathered at the square.
