Autopsy confirms CCF inmate contracted swine flu

Reports that prisoner allegedly caught and ate a raw pigeon could not be verified

The autopsy carried out on Giuseppe Cassar, 58, confirmed the presence of the H1N1 virus, MaltaToday has learnt.

Cassar died last week after falling ill at the prisons as a result of the influenza outbreak. The influenza is a variant of the swine flu.

Two inmates remain in hospital while eight others were isolated from the rest of the prisoners.

Citing sources close to the Corradino Correctional Facility, Newsbook.com.mt claimed that Cassar died after eating a raw pigeon.

MaltaToday was not in a position to verify this information. Informed sources confirmed that the rumour had originated from the prisons but that it was not independently verified.
