Joseph Ganado, man who inspired generations of lawyers, passes away

Prof. Joseph Ganado, a former dean of the faculty of law, died on Monday at the venerable age of 90

Prof. Joseph Ganado, a former dean of the faculty of law, professor of civil law and president of the Chamber of Advocates, passed away at the age of 90 on Monday, 2 May.

Prof. Ganado had served as chairman and member of the council of administration of the Strickland Foundation.

An executor of the estate of Mabel Strickland, the founder of The Times and owner of Allied Newspapers, Ganado was appointed a member of the Strickland Foundation council set up by Strickland in 1979 for the promotion of democratic principles, human rights and journalism.

After the death of Guido de Marco, he took over as chairman at 87 before stepping down in 2013.

Justice minister Owen Bonnici described Ganado as “a brilliant legal mind.”
