Jesuit theologian Prof. Maurice Eminyan passes away

Jesuit professor Maurice Eminyan has passed away, aged 88.

A statement issued by the  Jesuit Order announced Prof. Eminyan’s passing away late yesterday at Loyola House, Naxxar, comforted by holy rites.

Professor Maurice Eminyan,  leaves to mourn his loss his brethren of the Society of Jesus in Malta, nephews, nieces, relatives and many friends.

The funeral will be held tomorrow Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Jesuits church, Merchants Street, Valletta, followed by interment take place at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery.

Prof Eminyan was professor of dogmatic theology at the University between 1965 and 1993 and director of the Institute of Religious Studies at the University for many years. He was Dean of the Faculty of Theology between 1975 and 1982 and Jesuit Provincial between 1960 and 1966.

Professor Eminyan was also chaplain of the German-speaking community.
