Pictorial health warnings on cigarettes coming into force

Retailers are urged to immediately stop accepting cigarette products not bearing combined pictorial health warnings.

The Environmental Health Directorate (EHD) said that despite various press releases and circulars, various amounts of cigarette packets not bearing the combined pictorial health warning may remain for sale on and after the 27th April .

Legal Notice 302 of 2009 regulates that coloured photographs must be used on tobacco packages as health warnings.

“For this reason, the directorate warns all retailers that any non-compliance with the legislation, will result in legal action being initiated,” EHD warned.

“Retailers are urged to immediately refrain from accepting further cigarette products not in compliance with the legal notice.”

The Directorate added that all non-compliant stock must be removed from sale by June 22, 2011.

In case of any further queries, the Directorate can be contacted on  21337333 or 21324093 between 8am and 3pm

Perhaps the warnings should also advise that smokers really stink using this filth.
