MCAST closes engineering building
Following investigations to ensure the safety of students and staff, MCAST said that it had been has been “professionally advised” to add structural support to the upper floors of the mechanical engineering building before carrying out permanent repair works planned to start this summer.
A statement said that the engineering block at the MCAST campus will be temporarily closed as a result of protective measures being taken to guarantee the building’s safety while construction works are being conducted.
The works carried out have included the addition of a fourth floor to an older building to cater for an increasing number of students and to improve the existing facilities, which also include state of the art laboratories.
Work on these reinforcements has already started and shall be finished in the coming days, during which the affected students will be located to alternative premises.
