Bank of Valletta adopts mental health policy

Bank of Valletta is one of the first corporate institutions to adopt a Mental Health Policy.

The BOV Mental Health Policy, launched by Tonio Depasquale, CEO Bank of Valletta on the inauguration of the BOV Healthy Lifestyles Week, outlines the Bank’s commitment to positively promote and safeguard the mental health of its employees.

Through this policy, staff members are provided with training programmes in teamwork, stress management, problem solving, decision taking and conflict resolution. Through a collaboration agreement that the Bank has in place with the Richmond Foundation, counseling is provided, both at a group and at an individual level to all BOV employees. BOV employees will be given the opportunity to participate in individual counseling sessions which help them to deal with day to day issues, related to work and also to personal life, which may lead to the build up of mental stress.

Speaking during the inauguration of the Healthy Lifestyles Week, Depasquale said “as an institution with over 1,500 employees, we emphasize on the physical and mental health of the BOV Family. Bank of Valletta recognizes the importance of Health and Safety in the workplace as an important Corporate Responsibility issue.”

The Malta Red Cross, the Health Promotion Unit, Richmond Foundation, Sedqa and, Transplant Organ Donation Group will be amongst the organisations which will participate in the BOV Healthy Lifestyles Week. These associations will be organising various activities for BOV employees which vary between seminars focused on particular health related topics and measurement of Body Mass Indices, blood pressure and glucose levels.

The BOV Healthy Lifestyles Week will come to an end with a Blood Donation Day for BOV employees, who by doing so, will confirm the values embraced by the Bank towards helping those in need.

The BOV Healthy Lifestyles Week will run between the 2-6 May 2011 and is being held at the BOV Centre in Sta Venera.
