William and Kate moved by ‘kindness’ in wedding programme message
In enormous anticipation for one of the most talked about weddings of all time, the day has arrived when Prince William and his wife-to-be Catherine Middleton will wed today at Westminster Abbey.
Following the publication of the couple’s official wedding programme on Thursday, details of the wedding service have been revealed, along with the route from their respective points of departure to Westminster Abbey.
In a message in the programme they thanked "everyone most sincerely for their kindness".
The order of service reveals Miss Middleton will vow to "love, comfort, honour and keep", but not obey, Prince William.
Miss Middleton will leave the Goring Hotel, where she is spending her last night as a single woman, accompanied by her father Michael Middleton, at 10.50am in a Vintage Rolls-Royce. The hotel is located close to Buckingham Palace.
The Palace confirmed this week that the same Rolls-Royce was used by Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall when they were attacked by protesters in London in December en route to a show in Central London.
Palace Transport Manager Alexander Garty said "It's actually designed with visibility in mind, so you actually probably get a better view in the Rolls-Royce that she's using than a closed carriage."
Prince William will spend his last night as a bachelor at Clarence House. He will arrive in the abbey one hour before the bride.
After the wedding ceremony, the married couple will leave the Abbey in a horse-drawn carriage. It appears that the 1902 State Landau carriage will be employed; the same carriage Prince Charles and the late Diana, Princess of Wales had used at their wedding. However, in the eventuality of rain- not an uncommon occurrence in London- the roofed Glass Coach will be used.
White-looking horses known as the Windsor Greys, which are usually reserved for the Queen, will pull the newlyweds.
The way back from Westminster Abbey is expected to include a scenic route between two royal parks; Green Park and St James’s Park.
Other London landmarks along the way include Parliament Square, Whitehall, Downing Street and Horse Guards Parade.
After arriving back at Buckingham Palace, the Queen, Prince William and Kate Middleton and their families will appear on the Palace’s balcony.
