[WATCH] Herby croutons

Croutons make a great addition to any salad and are great sprinkled over pasta dishes if crushed into breadcrumbs. Making your own is easy and requires nothing more than you would find in a well-stocked pantry.

Herby croutons

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf day old bread
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 3 sprigs thyme
  • 50g butter
  • ½ tsp paprika

Method

  1. Remove the crusts and cut the day old bread into cubes.
  2. In a skillet on medium heat, melt the butter and add the garlic, herbs and paprika.
  3. Add to bread to the melted butter and allow to cook until golden.
  4. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Allow excess butter to drain on kitchen paper.

These croutons will keep for about a week in an airtight container.
