Baked mozzarella sticks
Everybody loves melted cheese and deep-fried mozzarella bites are nothing short of delicious. To make these snacks a little healthier, Sean Gravina puts them in the oven instead of the deep-frier and serves them with a homemade tomato sauce.
Baked mozzarella sticks
Ingredients
- 1/3 cup panko breadcrumbs
- Dry mozzarella cheese
- 1 egg, beaten
- Tomato sauce
Method
- Preheat oven to 200°C.
- Heat a medium skillet over medium heat. Add the panko to pan, and cook for 2 mins or until toasted, stirring frequently. Remove from heat, and place the panko in a shallow dish.
- Cut mozzarella into sticks.
- Working with one piece at a time, dip cheese in egg and dredge in panko.
- Place cheese on a baking sheet coated with cooking spray.
- Bake for 3 minutes or until the cheese is softened and thoroughly heated.
- Serve with heated tomato sauce.
