The Mediterranean Diet Foundation have stated that water is the main beverage in the Mediterranean Diet and is fundamental to our diet.

Wine, preferably red wine,should be taken in moderation and with meals(one glass of red wine for females and up to two glasses for males). Wine is a traditional part of the Mediterranean diet and has health benefits, but it must be taken with moderation and as a part of a balanced diet.
