Warm apples with dried fruit, nuts and spices
A warm, comforting dish for cold evenings
Ingredients:
- 5 apples
- 50g sultanas
- 50g dried prunes
- 50g walnuts
- some mixed spice
- rind of 1 orange
- 2 tbsp custard powder
- 200ml skimmed milk
Method:
- Peel and core the apples.
- Place the apples in a medium-sized pan.
- Fill ¾ of pan with water and add the orange rind.
- Add the raisins, prunes and walnuts in the centre of the apples.
- Sprinkle some mixed spice on the apples.
- Simmer for 30-45 minutes until the fruit feels tender.
- Prepare the custard: Heat the milk in a milk pan. Add the custard powder. Stir using a whisk until the milk thickens and custard forms. When ready pour the custard over the apples.
