Warm apples with dried fruit, nuts and spices

A warm, comforting dish for cold evenings

Ingredients:

  • 5 apples
  • 50g sultanas
  • 50g dried prunes
  • 50g walnuts
  • some mixed spice
  • rind of 1 orange
  • 2 tbsp custard powder
  • 200ml skimmed milk

Method:

  1. Peel and core the apples.
  2. Place the apples in a medium-sized pan.
  3. Fill ¾ of pan with water and add the orange rind.
  4. Add the raisins, prunes and walnuts in the centre of the apples.
  5. Sprinkle some mixed spice on the apples.
  6. Simmer for 30-45 minutes until the fruit feels tender.
  7. Prepare the custard: Heat the milk in a milk pan. Add the custard powder. Stir using a whisk until the milk thickens and custard forms. When ready pour the custard over the apples.
