Guinness gifts to celebrate St Patrick’s Day

Various pubs in Malta will be taking part in a global celebration on St Patrick’s Day, 17 March, and handing out special branded gifts to Guinness drinkers.

More than 60 million people around the globe claim Irish descent, including the 4.1 million citizens in Ireland. Everyone is encouraged to “become Irish for a day” on the feast of St Patrick’s in honour of this traditional day.

Much like St Patrick’s Day, Guinness is also steeped in Irish history, founded in 1759. Today it is brewed in 50 countries and is available in over 150 countries across the globe.

Celebrations differ around the world, from festive parades in the United States, Munich and Tokyo to the flocking of “honorary Irishmen” in Russia, France and Malta to their local Irish pub.

More than 10 million pints of Guinness are drunk everyday around the globe, even more so on St Patrick’s Day.

Guinness Master Fergal Murray said: “St Patrick’s Day and Guinness are symbolic not only of Irish culture but also of celebrating life. The best way to celebrate is by gathering a group of friends and toasting the energy, happiness and friendship that good company may bring.”

Patrons not able to get to the pub on St Patrick’s Day may get into the Irish festive spirit purchasing a four-pack from the supermarket which entitles them to an exclusive ball-point pen in a case.
