Marsa c.c too strong for Ash Tree C.C
Over the weekend Marsa C.C played against new touring team Ash Tree C.C in a two game series.
On Saturday the Marsa team batted first. Robert Krishna and Sumair Khan opened the innings. Khan was first to go after scoring one run. Krishna went on to make twenty seven runs. His son Sunny made eleven runs before getting a leading edge which lobbed high and straight back to the bowler who made a great effort to take the catch.
Joy Ghoseroy scored seventeen cautious runs before being caught. At this stage the home team were a hundred runs of twenty two overs, and had lost five wickets. Bikram Arora made his presence felt and scored fifty one runs from forty three balls faced which include two fours and three sixes. He made fifty one runs before retiring. Derek Ali scored thirty nine runs and John Grima twenty five runs from twenty four balls. The Ash tree bowling was wayward and gave away thirty seven extras which helped the home team to a reasonable score of 208. For AshTree, M.Harfield, M.Finnerty, M.Russell, I,Robinson and C.Heathcote all took a wicket each.
The Ash Tree reply was going well with B.Spray scoring thirty runs, D.Waters forty seven runs, M.Russell forty four runs and M.Finnerty seventeen runs. Once they had lost their wickets the others tumbled and were bowled out for 172 runs. Gordon Hewitt was the main wicket taker with three. Joy Ghoseroy and Derek Ali took two wickets each while Bikram Arora and Sumair Khan took a wicket each.. Marsa win the first game.
On Sunday a twenty over game was played and the visitors batted first and were bowled out in the eighteenth over, totalling 82 runs. D.Waters was their highest scorer with twenty nine runs. For the Marsa team, Ewan Perens, Chris Riorden and Simon Lavender were the main wicket takers with two a piece. It only took the Marsa team ten overs to make the runs. Dhruv Duggal (twenty seven runs), Chris Riorden (twenty five runs) and Ewan Perens (sixteen runs) were the main run makers. The Marsa team win the series two to nil.
Next Saturday the MCA Summer league continues with two games. 9:45am Krishna C.C v Melita C.C. 14:00pm Overseas C.C v POP Mellieha.
The Sunoco cricket academy/nursery will be from 9:00 till 10:30am.
On Sunday The Marsa C.C take on new team Penders C.C in a twenty over game.
