Valletta progress in UEFA Champions League

Champions Valletta progressed to the second qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League after they defeated SP Tre Fiori 2-1 at the Hibernians Stadium, Wednesday evening.

In the previous match, Valletta defeated SP Tre Fiori 3-0 to advance with a 5-1 aggregate.

Tre Fiori took the lead on the 20th minute when they were awarded a penalty. Kenneth Scicluna brought down Alessandro Giunta down inside the area.Altin Lisi made no mistake from the penalty spot to gibe Tri Fiori the lead.

Valletta scored the equaliser on the 58th minute when referee Bardhyl Pashaj pointed to the penalty spot after Ian Zammit was brought down inside the area by Matteo Vendemini. Vendemini was sent off after receiving his second yellow card. Ian Zammit scored from the penalty spot to level the score.

On the 88th minute Valletta made sure they advanced the to second round of the UEFA Champions League qualifying round after they scored the goal to give them the lead. Edmond Agius served William Barbosa da Silva who then controlled the ball to beat goalkeeper Cola with his rising shot.

Next Tuesday, Valletta will host Lithuanian champions FK Ekranas in the first leg of the second qualifying round at the Hibernians Stadium.
