Galliani to leave AC Milan after 28 years
Galliani’s expected decision to split with the club comes after Barbara Berlusconi’s apparent plans to modernise the club.
Adriano Galliani has made known his intentions of leaving AC Milan in a couple of days, after serving the club for almost 28 years.
According to Italian newspapers, Galliani has understood that he can no longer be the head of the Rossoneri club and that his power was going to be reduced should Barbara Berlusconi take over the club’s leadership from her father Silvio, former Italian Prime Minister.
During the years, Galliani’s powers increased as Silvio Berlusconi was keeping himself busy in Italian politics.
“I will resign after the match against Ajax. A generational change is fine but not like this. It should have been more elegant,” Galliani was reported saying by Italian media.
“My reputation has taken a severe blow. I will also resign without having reached an agreement regarding my severance package."
AC Milan are currently in troubled waters, finding themselves 13th in the Italian Serie A league with only 14 points from 13 matches.
Galliani’s expected decision to split with the club comes after Barbara Berlusconi’s apparent plans to modernise the club and re-structure the Rossoneri’s management.
While it has been suggested that she will bring in a new sporting director to help on the transfer market, the owner’s daughter is also keen to bring back an element of the old Milan with Paolo Maldini or Demetrio Albertini expected to be handed an operational role.
