Floriana F.C. in intense negotiations in bid to snatch Michael Mifsud from Valletta

Floriana FC have launched negotiations with national team and Valletta striker Michael Mifsud.

MaltaToday is informed that Mifsud received an 'interesting' offer from Floriana FC and negotiations are underway, led by the club's new President Johann Said.

Contacted, Michael Mifsud refused to comment on the ongoing discussions.

Meanwhile, Floriana FC are reportedly upping their original offer to Michael Mifsud, who is also said to be in talks talks with an unnamed UK Championship (Division 1) club.

Mifsud was a free agent after signing with UK team Barnsley United in 2009, and finally joined Valletta until the end of the 2009-10 season.

Born in 1981, Michael Mifsud is a product of Sliema Wanderers who made his debut in the 1997-98 season. Mifsud’s form the previous season led to a trial with Manchester United in July 1999. In 2002 he earned his first call-up to the national team, and then signed for Bundesliga club Kaiserslautern in the summer of 2001.

In 2004 he returned to Sliema, before signing up with Norwegian Premier League club Lillestrom, where he was the club’s top scorer in the 2006 season with 11 goals in 19 appearances.

In 2007, Mifsud signed a two-and-a-half year deal with Coventry City in the Championship league in England. In the third round of the 2007-08 League Cup, Mifsud scored two goals to give Coventry City an unexpected 2-0 victory over Premier League champions Manchester United, at Old Trafford.
