Juventus beat Milan to win the Trofeo Berlusconi

This traditional friendly at San Siro precedes the start of the Serie A season and gave the opportunity for both teams to test out their new managers.

Gigi Del Neri rested Diego and Amauri, giving Alessandro Del Piero, David Trezeguet and Jorge Martinez the chance to shine.

Milan were without the injured Alexandre Pato, Alessandro Nesta and new signing Kevin Prince Boateng, so youngster Nnamdi Oduamadi started alongside Marco Borriello and Ronaldinho.

Ronaldinho pounced on a defensive error to thread through for Marco Borriello, but Alex Manninger rushed out to smother at his feet.

The Brazilian created another great chance with his cross-field pass, but Oduamadi's first touch let him down.

At the other end, Del Piero flashed an angled drive across the face of goal from a Martinez slide-rule assist and Trezeguet's diving header was too weak to trouble Christian Abbiati.

Clarence Seedorf's right-foot snapshot skimmed the woodwork and Manninger did well to parry a Daniele Bonera volley from outside the box.

Oduamadi twice wasted good chances, as he couldn't keep his cool in front of goal. From the corner, a brilliant Seedorf volley from 20 metres skimmed the far post.

In the second half Ronaldinho curled a splendid free kick from the left corner of the box that Manninger flew to palm it away.

Abbiati punched another Del Piero set piece, but Giorgio Chiellini needed a crucial intervention to stop Seedorf pulling the trigger from eight yards after the Dutchman's first touch had committed Nicola Legrottaglie.

Pippo Inzaghi came off the bench and beat the offside trap, forcing Manninger to come out of the box to clear. Diego fired a powerful shot off target, while Mathieu Flamini skipped between two defenders to test Manninger with a one-handed save at the base of the near post.

Marco Motta stung Abbiati's palms with a rising angled drive and Flamini again went close. Deep into stoppages Massimo Ambrosini's tackle on the very edge of the area allowed Diego to take a free kick, but it hit teammate Chiellini in the wall and Felipe Melo fired the rebound over.

Without goals after 90 minutes, it went to penalties. Ronaldinho and Simone Pepe converted, but Thiago Silva ballooned well over the bar.

Leonardo Bonucci, Daniele Bonera, Davide Lanzafame, Inzaghi, Diego and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar all scored successfully. Motta took the decisive spot-kick and squeezed it under Abbiati's hand to give Juventus the 20th edition of the Trofeo Berlusconi.
