Floriana defeat Hamrun as M’Xlokk and Hibs share the points

Floriana defeated nine-man Hamrun 2-1 in a match that kept the referee busy showing cards on rough tackles and fan trouble.

Floriana took the lead on the 16thminute when Christian Caruana headed the ball for the goal past goalkeeper Ivan Casha when he received a great pass from Joseph Borg.

Hamrun then started to press for the equalizer, but they had a setback when on the on the 34thminute Martin Hrubsa received a second yellow card for a rough tackle on Kiril Dzhorov.

Still with one man down, Hamrun pressed and got the equalizer two minutes into the second half. Dene Shields went past the Floriana defence and concluded by beating goalkeeper Loft Saidi.

On the 56thminute Floriana got their chance when the referee ordered a penalty when Steve Bonnici brought down Ivan Woods in the area. Woods made no mistake in converting the penalty and Floriana were up 2-1.

Hamrun kept pressing for another equaliser, but it was not meant to be.  Floriana earned a very important three points and they prevented Hamrun from regaining top spot.

In the first seven minutes of the match Marsaxlokk already had a two goal advantage.

On the 4thminute of the match Trevor Templeman had his low shot beat Hibs goalkeeper Mario Muscat.

Only three minutes later Alfred Effiong  made it 2-0 in favour of Marsaxlokk.

Hibernians did not sit back and kept pressing to get something out of this match. And the reward came on the 16thminute when Andrew Cohen passed to Paul McManus who beat goalkeeper Reuben Gauci to get the Hibs back into the match.

On the 32ndminute, Hibernians equalised when off a freekick taken by Levniac, McManus passed to Andrew Cohen who put it past M’Xlokk goalkeeper Gauci.

The second half remained scoreless with both teams having opportunities but none of them were converted into goals.
