Ronaldo to stay at Real - Agent
Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to finish his career at Real Madrid, according to his agent Jorge Mendes, seemingly ruling out a sensational return to Manchester United.
It has been reported by a number of national newspapers that Ronaldo's former club are keen to re-sign the 30-year-old and could make an approach next summer.
Sky Sports' Spanish football expert Guillem Balague, writing in his recent biography of the Portugal star, believes Ronaldo still dreams of a return to Old Trafford.
French champions Paris Saint-Germain are also reported to be lining up a potential deal.
But Mendes, who negotiated both Ronaldo's £12m move to United in 2003 and the £80m transfer to Madrid in 2009, says his client is "happy" at Real.
"There is lots of speculation and a new story every day," he said, "But if you ask me I would say Cristiano will finish his career with Real Madrid and be there for many, many years."
Mendes has been Ronaldo's agent his entire professional career and, speaking at the launch of the new movie Ronaldo, which documents the player's life, Mendes revealed the conversation with Sir Alex Ferguson that took Ronaldo to Old Trafford from Sporting Lisbon.
"You have the wrong idea that Cristiano played a fantastic game against United and then afterwards the decided to buy him. It's not true.
"All the big clubs wanted Ronaldo but Ferguson guaranteed him first team games. I was with him the night before and he said 'if you come with me I guarantee he will play 50% of the games. That was the key."
