Sliema secure Premier League status by defeating Vittoriosa

Ten-man Sliema secured their Premier League status by defeating Vittoriosa stars 2-1. With this defeat, Vittoriosa are on the verge of falling to Division 1.

Vittoriosa started the match positively with Carlos Campagnoli’s freekick on the second minute testing goalkeeper Henry Bonello.

Sliema were reduced to ten-men when Roderick Bajada was sent off after receiving his second yellow card.

On the 54th minute, Vittoriosa took the lead thanks to a own goal by Josef Mifsud. Leighton Grech’s shot was deflected by the Sliema captain to beat his own goalkeeper.

Sliema equalised on the 72nd minute. Noel Turner setup Jean Pierre Mifsud Triganza who’s powerful shot was not held by Simon Agius to end up at the back of the net.

Mifsud Triganaza gave Sliema the all important lead on the 89th minute. Obbina Obiefule passed to Jean Pierre Mifsud Triganza inside the area to conclude by beating the Vittoriosa goalkeeper.

Obinna Obiefule almost made it 3-1 for Sliema on the 90th minute when his powerful shot his the crossbar.
