ASM Donates €2018 to the Malta Community Chest Fund

Next Sunday 16th January, ASM will be organizing the first event of this New Year. This event will be the 6th event from the 15 races of the ASM-New Styles-Poiatti Championships.

During last event, only Silvio Sciberras on his Citroen AX No. 63 won all of the 3 pre-Final Heats. During the Final A race, Emm Muscat drove his Opel Corsa (60) to victory from start to finish. He was followed by Matthew Borg on a Nova but later in the laps, he lost his placing to Mario Scicluna and Karmel Zammit who were battling together for 2nd and 3rd place respectively while making it easier for Muscat to secure his lead.

In the Fnal Laps, Zammit played an non-sporty move on Scicluna which forced the Referee to expel Zammit from the race.

In the Autocross Class B Final, Godwin Martin took the lead to the Finish during the 9 Lap race. Martin was closely followed by Josef Abela and Brian Azzopardi on his competitive Escort Mk1.

In the Bangers races, Tony Spiteri (90) won the 3 Race Heats of the day. Dennis Vassallo (9) won the 2nd highest points of the day and Philip Delia won 3rd overall on his Escort 2 litre No.55.

The Motocross Riders have run a non-Championship event and all Class A and Class B riders started the race on the same Starting Gate. Yet, the Final results were given separately for both Classes. Both the Start and the track were a remarkable scene. One could see motorbikes in all parts of the track with 19 riders on the start and with a 12 minute race Heats.

Because this event was organized to raise funds for the Community Chest Fund, the ASM committee also allocated a few minutes of Autocross / Motocross for Juniors. This Juniors Autocross & Motocross demonstration was held on this day, following training sessions by Autocross / Motocross aces and under strict rules and supervision. Many enjoyed these young lads on the AX / MX track to which, these young riders are very familiar too.

The last event held on the 19th of December 2010 also included a Car Demolition Derby. 27 cars made it to the start line which were divided into two (2) groups for a demonstration run. Then the Banging commenced as they were show the Start Flag. This Demolition which lasted an hour was won by Raffaello Gerald Bonello on a Mazda and Leo Butler on a Rover 2 Liter was Runner-up.
Next Demolition at the ASM Race Tracks is scheduled for the Easter Season.

This Demolition which was run under strict new rules and regulations, pulled a larger crowd that usual and €2018 are to be presented to the President Dr G. Abela ono the Malta Community Chest Fund. Although the President, Prime minister and other personalities were invited to attend, Dr Joseph Muscat PL Leader attended this event for the first time.

He was accompanied by Chris Agius MP. Dr Muscat delivered a short message and exchanged greetings for the festive season to the ASM competitors and spectators. He was presented with a memento by ASM President Mr. Frans Deguara, on behalf of the ASM Executive Committee and members.

This Weekend’s event Number 6 in a row of 15 for the cars and 8 races for the Motocross will start at 12.00 hours on Sunday. Saturday afternoon is reserved for the training sessions between 2.00pm and 4.00pm
