Six national records broken at weightlifting event
The Malta Weightlifting Association organised its final competition in preparation for the coming International events.
For the first time four clubs participated in this event. These were; Cottonera Sports centre, MCAST Naxxar, Nobel club Sliema, and Starmax club Marsa.
Six national records were broken during this event. In the youths section Rodmar Pulis succeeded to break four national records. With a Clean & Jerk of 111Kg and a Total of 193Kg he managed to break not only the youths records but also the Juniors. The other two records were broken by Nicole Gatt who with a Clean & Jerk of 40Kg she also broke national records in the youths and Juniors. These are promising achievements for the COJI Competition which is to be held in Palermo in May.
Other good results were achieved by Destiny Busutill who managed a total of 60Kg in the Youths section. Ryan Agius failed to make a total but he still managed an 88Kg Clean & Jerk. Chris Schinas a newcomer to this sport managed an impressive total of 125Kg. Matthew Muscat gave a good performance with a remarkable total of 210Kg. Noel Coleiro was best lifter of the competition with a total of 240Kg.
The Competition was run by the Associations President Mr. Jesmond Caruana. He was assisted by three referees Simon Brincat, Stephen Borg and Ramona Borg, Andrea Caruana was timekeeper.
On April 2nd Rodmar Pulis will participate in a competition in Italy. This competition is held amongst the best Italian lifters in the youths category, he will be accompanied by his coach Jesmond Caruana.
