Malta cricket weekend review

On Saturday the first game of the second round of the Cricket Winter league was played by Krishna C.C and Melita Betfair C.C.

Krishnawon the toss and elected to bat. Dave Borg and Tim Wheeler opened the batting. Borg was first to go being caught after making fifteen runs from sixteen  balls faced.

Wheeler ended making twelve runs. Andy Lenard played a top innings scoring thirty six runs before having to retire when facing thirty balls. He hit one six and a four along the way. Nowell Khosla did not have one of his better innings but still managed to retire after thirty balls scoring seventeen runs. Mike Caruana scored twelve runs from seven balls before being caught brilliantly by Chris Naudi on the boundary.

Naudi having at first, run to his left to get to the catch, and suddenly having to change back to his right because the wind managed to change the direction of the ball, Naudi flung to his right and caught the ball inches of the ground with his right hand. The Krishna side totalled 106 runs from their twenty overs. For Melita , Tom Ried, Justin Brooke,Kevin Krishna,Tony Slater and Ian Pendlebury all took a wicket.

Melita’s reply started well enough with Chris Naudi and Justin Brooke making light work of the bowling and running well between the wickets.  They had scored thirty eight runs before Brooke was caught for seven runs.

Naudi went on to top score with thirty five runs for his team. Naudi’s wicket was the first of six in a brilliant ten over spell between Andy Lenard and Mike Caruana. Only thirty runs were scored from these over. Lenard ended with three wickets while Caruana ended with two and there was also a run out. John Grima managed eight runs and Andy Naudi seven runs.

Betfair were bowled out for seventy six runs. Nowell Khosla also took two wickets and Darren Grech took one for Krishna.

Krishnaearned ten points from the win and spiralled to first position while Betfair earned one point and are third in the standings.

Next Saturday Melita Betfair C.C will play Marsa C.C at 10:00am. The Academy will be from 9:00am till 10:30am.

Last Monday St Martin’s School had an inter school Cricket tournament which new level one coach Kevin Krishna organised, he was aided by level coach Sam Aquilina and Sarfarz Ali.
