Malta Cricket weekend review

On Saturday the second game of the Chairman’s versus the Captain’s team was played.

The Chairman’s team won the toss and elected to bat. Tony Azzopardi and Sarfraz Ali opened the batting.

They put on a partnership of sixty five runs before Ali was caught for sixteen runs. Azzopardi fell in the following over scoring nineteen runs. Mark G Sacco scored thirteen runs before he was bowled. Javed Shah and Joy Ghoseroy scored nine and eight runs respectively.

Ronnie Sacco top scored for his team with twenty four runs including three fours. Junior Thomas Rusher batted well and scored three runs not out while Ian Pendelbury remained unbeaten on nine runs.

The Captain’s bowlers were not on top form and gave no less than forty three wides. This boosted the Chairman’s total to a modest 158 runs from the thirty five overs allocated. In saying this one bowler did stand out taking three wickets for fifteen runs from seven overs Justin Brooke.

The Captain’s reply could not have started any worse having the two opening bowlers Tony Azzopardi and Kevin Krishna bowling well, Azzopardi in particular should have finished up with more than the one wicket he took. Simon Bugeja was bowled in the fourth over without scoring.

Chris Naudi ,Robert Krishna and Sunny Krishna all made it to double figures but did not get on with it. Malcolm Crabbe showed his team mates how to do it smashing three fours and a six on his way to forty runs before being caught. After the Crabbe onslaught the Captains innings fell apart.

Sam Aquilina remained unbeaten on twelve runs. One must mention the efforts of Nadia Gosney who occupied the crease for more than five overs scoring five runs. She had many a close fielder but still managed to survive. The Captain’s team were bowled out for 129 runs. For the Chairman’s team Adam Krishna , Ronnie Sacco and Joy Ghoseroy all took two wickets while Mike Caruana took three.

Next week the third game between these sides will be played starting at 11:00am. From 9:00 till 10:30 the academy/nursery will be held.
