POP Mellieha surprise Krishna
On Saturday the MCA Summer league continued with Krishna C.C playing newcomers POP Mellieha C.C. A few of the players from the other teams turned up to watch this new team, the unknown factor.
POP Mellieha batted first. Adeel Nazar and Usman Musadiq opened the innings both falling within the first two overs for six runs between them. This brought together Usman Khattak and Imran Yousef who put on a sixty run partnership before Yousef was bowled , he had scored thirty four runs from twenty three balls which included two fours and two sixes.
Khattak went on to score thirty runs. After these two only two other batsmen made it past double figures, Haroon Majeed (eleven runs) and Waseem Abbas (sixteen runs). Aided with twenty five extras and few too many drop catches the POP Melliha team scored a healthy 142 runs, even after being bowled out. For Krishna Sumair Khan was the main wicket taker with four (a very good effort). Nowell Khosla took three wickets, Bikram Arora two wickets and Kevin Krishna one.
The big question now was, are the POP bowlers up for the challenge. Nowell Khosla and Bikram Arora opened the innings. Arora was first to go after making five runs. Khosla was doing well scoring twenty five runs from twenty one balls before being brilliantly caught by Raja Zubair, the well hit ball apparently to all watching looked as if it had cleared Zubair, as all thought it was safe he stuck up his right hand and took a ripper of a catch.
After this Dhruv Duggal was making inroads with the bowling scoring twenty eight runs from twenty one balls which included two fours and a six, and he too was caught. From there on the Krishna side struggled with only Kevin Krishna making it past double figures scoring thirteen runs. The Krishna team were kept down to 108 runs giving the POP Mellieha a memorable first game win.
They earned eight points from the win while Krishna earned two. For the POP team, Waseem Abbas was the main wicket taker with two while Farhaan Zaher, Amar Butt and Raja Zubair all took a wicket each.
