Bicycle thief conditionally discharged for a year
Minor steals bicycle form another boy, admits to the theft and is conditionally discharged for a year.
A 16-year old bicycle thief was conditionally discharged for a year after his mother agreed to pay for the bicycle he stole last year.
On 18 July 2013, the youth was in Marsacala where he stole a bicycle belonging to another boy. The police apprehended yhe accused and charged him with theft.
He pleaded guilty as charged.
Noting the youth’s guilty plea and his clean police record, the Court warned the accused about the consequences of his admission.
Meanwhile, his mother reached an agreement with the victim’s parents to pay for the stolen bicycle, which was valued at €1,400. The prosecution informed the court that eight payments of €100 each had already been made and there was only a balance of €600 left.
Magistrate Consuello Scerri Herrera said the court would deal with the accused as a first-time offender. The16-year old was conditionally discharged for a year.
